So a about
5 weeks ago I came back into flare out of remission. It started gradually, with softer stools, until the same old familiar came around.
I had also been out of asacol at the time. So I got back on the higher asacol dose, at 4800mg/day, and a week or so in added asacol enemas.
about
1 or 2 weeks ago, I really thought I had this going backwards, stools were firming, etc. Enter thanksgiving, and I ate "normally" but lighter... Im not sure if that was even it, as the flare seems to vacillate anyways, but just today I had urgency in the am (after standing up) like I havent since the initial bout. ***? I really want to achieve and hold remission with asacol and not something stronger.
I have a suspicion (of course Im not sure), that the enemas arent getting to all the inflammation... could you deliver 2 per night :/ ?
anyway.

If you're on oral asacol...it will deal with above the sigmoid. If you're on the enemas, it'll deal with rectum sigmoid.
Was the urgency after other bms? or whas this the only bm you had today?
There's no reason to do 2 enemas a night. Are the asacol enemas the foam...1000mg? You could use them morning and night...morning after your bm. And then maybe use a suppository after that in the morning and maybe at night.
What's the dosage schedule of the oral asacol.
Are you on any fibre supplements?
Are you on probiotics?
This is all part of healing from a flare....hang tough. The longest I was on rectal enemas nightly once was for 4 months.
q
*Heather* I give suggestions, do with them what you will.
Status: ...Asacol 3 @ 2x daily; Salofalk enema @ 3rd night (nightly/ flares, tapered/maintenance)
~diagnosed January 1989 UC (proctosigmoiditis)
~Bentylol 20mg as needed; Zantac 150mg; Pulmicort/Airomir (asthma);Effexor XR 37.5 (depression)
~vitamins/minerals/supplements; Probiotics....(RenewLife Ultimate Flora Critical Care+Primadophilus Reuteri capsules @ bedtime)
~Metamucil capsules 6 twice daily with meals; Vitamin D 4500 IU
~URSO for PBC(or PSC?) 500mg X 2 daily (LFTs back to NORMAL!!)
My doc's logic.. "TREAT (FROM)BOTH ENDS" worth it !!!

The enemas are not foam, but Im not sure of the dosage (at work currently).. but they seemed smaller than I thought they would be.
The asacol is in 3 doses per day, spaced 8 hrs. What concerns me is that I responded much more quickly to the asacol the first time, and now its lagging a little.
Im not on fibre supps, but am planning to get some gasx today to deal with that... I ate a bunch of berries last weekend that didnt seem to help at ALL. I thought I ordered some psillium seed but maybe not..
Im still urinating, but not as much as usual, as Im passing a lot of water out the other side. When I had my initial flare, I hardly peed for like 3 months...
Ps the urgency was the first of the am. For me, thats usually the worst. Esp when its mixed with gas and liquid, its tough when you are suddenly vertical after laying horizontal....
