I'm a strong believer that an in-balance of our gut flora is the root problem for many of us suffering with this disease. Based on this assumption I've been trying different natural antibiotics (along with a probiotic). In the past I've used berberine complex which helped a bit.

More recently I've been using olive leaf extract and I've seen a noticeable improvement. Here's a link to the brand I'm taking (I take 1 capsule 3 times during the day).

www.amazon.com/SPF-Olive-Leaf-Extract-VegCap/dp/B00020IEGU

Thought I'd share this with the group to see if anyone else had given it a try (or is up for a little self-experimentation to see if they can replicate my results).

it's funny you mentioned this and i'll tell you why. i work at a naturopath's office and we do a lot of muscle testing to see what supplements would help people. lately, everyone has been testing positive for olive leaf! it's very beneficial for the gut and we ended up running out of it the past few weeks because so many people needed it. i myself haven't tried it, but if i ever have enough money to see my boss as a patient, i would ask her to test the olive leaf on me.

Aaaw, Bananagirl. I am sad that your boss wouldn't just check you out of concern for your well-being, whether or not you could pay for her services.

I have worked for doctors in the past who would take my insurance, but would never bill me for the remaining balance.

Does olive leaf have negative effects? If not (I just now heard of it so IDK) why not add some and see if it helps?

Olive leaf is one of my core healing nutribiotics. It helps get many pathogens under control. You have to take pretty high doses, but is a very safe herb.

The one thing you have to worry about is a die off effect. That can be pretty brutal but since you already have c diff.. lol However, with your hetero c677t you may have some blocked up detox. So be aware.

I take 1500mg 2x per day. 30 minutes before breakfast and 30 minutes before dinner. You want the bugs to eat the herbs so you give it to them before the food gives them energy.

Yes, was dxed with C diff. Was on 10 days of vanco. No improvement of symptoms,

C-scope yesterday was a colitis colon, not a C diff colon.

That doesn't mean that it's not there, I guess.

It was olive leaf extract I took (a natural antifungal) along with my experimentation with an antifungal diet. I was at the point of being sick and tired of being sick and tired, and heard that fungus can be implicated with IBD, like UC , and was willing to try anything. Was pleasantly surprised when after 2 weeks of faithful allegiance, my symptoms were dramatically reduced. I initially took 6 pills/day (2/meal). The toxin die-off was wicked, but I feel the OLE helped quicken my progress. I still take OLE when I feel an illness coming on, or from time to time for maintenance. Great stuff. You should rotate antifungals like this monthly though with another form, like caprylic acid to keep the fungus from adapting....so I've read.

How did they determine it was "a colitis colon, not a C diff colon"?

I guess by the looks of it.

No pus, no abcesses maybe?

I was heavily sedated (triple dose of versed) and I remember the doc coming in but not much of what he said.

I see him in 10 days and will then ask more Qs.

I am sure there are still some C diff critters there...as I'm sure you know they form spores.

THAT IS...assuming that I did not have a false pos C diff test or something.  The Vanco had no effect on my symptoms even after I finished the full course.

At my next appointment I will ask about pulse dosing for the infection, or repeat testing.

I ordered the L-methyltetrahydrofolate today.  Gotta love Amazon Prime!

On a happy note...I have had 2x20 mg doses of pred and it has kept me out of the bathroom most of the day.

If the MTHFRs don't get me, the disgusting germs will.

I just don't know now they'd visually divine that. I'm glad the pred is helping you. They should have biopsied you during the scope to retest so hopefully u will have more answers soon.
