I usually just do a liquid diet for 2 days before prepping, I have found this cuts way down on the horrible cramping since the preps job is to turn everything solid into D to rush it out of your body and solid foods tend to cause excessive cramping from the prep....broth, jello and lots of water is all I do a couple days before prepping. Good luck!
bee propolis caps 500mg one cap twice/day
omegas 369 caps one cap twice/day
probiotics 10 billion cfu once/day
vitamins C-calcium ascorbate (easy on the gut) and vitamin A each once/day
Prodiem fibre supplement one cap before bed
I've also altered my diet (no junky stuff at all, processed, fast-foods, refined sugars, ect) and exercise regularly.
I went from 30+ bloody BM's/day with lots of lower back pain to an average of 5/day no bleeding no back pain and completely formed stools, still have severe urgency issues.
~~~~~~~~My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it! LOL :)~~~~~~~~
thanks guys..great idea on the vegetable broth. I'm good to go until the actual go-lytly(LOL) prep begins
- Coconut Water taste test..picked up a few different brands
- organic vegetable broth from wolfgang puck
also confirmed with the Endoscopy Center that Sudafed is OK today as I have a lingering cold
pb4 - never have had cramping from the prep, sorry to hear that. I always have used golytely prep except once, forgot what I used, but it was a horrific experience, was two small bottles, maybe Fleet. never again!
exactly right Alina. My goal is to make my 24 hours of liquid as tasty and comfortable as possible. too few calories and I get dizzy and light headed.
I like popsicles and jello because at least you can kind of chew them. I think the worst part of the prep is not being able to eat anything. I get so hungry.
Have fun! ;)
@Sara14 - thanks.
Q for you all...do you remember how long it took until you were "back to normal". Everything went fine this morning, have drank a lot and eaten two meals still going to the bathroom often-ish, lots of noises and nothing solid. It's 9pm now. I teach class in the morning, wondering how everything will be for that hour+, guess I'll find out....
Hello folks,
Colonoscopy is scheduled for thursday early morning so tomorrow is going to be a hell. I wonder if I can eat Banana. Today I did a trial run and I am already so tired. I got 2 64oz White cranberry juice, Powerade 8-pack and one big 7-up bottle. I will drink maximum water but this is just a backup for taste.
My main problem is, I need something to eat. Just drinking doesn't seem to be helping and since I am on 40mg Pred, I am ALWAYS hungry.
So can I eat a banana or two and eat while bread for tomorrow breakfast (not the colonoscopy day)?
Diagnosed March 2007 with left sided UC at the age of 30.
Currently on,
Colazal 9 daily, Imuran, 200mg daily, Vit. B12, 1mg, Multivitamin, 1 tablet daily, Fish oil 2400mg daily, Vit D 2000 IU daily.
Verapamil 240mg for migraine, Migraine episode now at least twice a month,
Ibuprofen 400mg is the only solution (but leads to bleeding). Looking for alternatives.
@sherbear46
I'm sure the recommendations vary by doctor/hospital , I've had Colonoscopies with 3-4 Doctors and have always been able to eat the day prior, just from the restricted list
For all my sigmoids and colonoscopies, I reduced the amounts of solid foods I ate days before the procedures. I took in mostly liquids and soft foods like yogurt, vegetable soup, jello. This helped reduce the cramping and did a lot to help prepare mentally for the day before the procedure because, well, liquids only the day before all day, can be tough. I feel a lot goes on mentally, atleast for me, so I found a way to help deal mentally when having to deal with the physical stuff...like not being able to eat solids, cramping, rectal pain, etc. This also helped with the enema because there isn't too much cramping for me in the end.
My favorite foods for the day before: vegetable/chicken broth, jello, chammomile tea, & white grape juice.
I always go for the chicken stock and juice ice pops. There's really not too many options. Someome said gummy bears the other day but I wasn't told they were allowed by my GIs office.
I just had my scope last week, I got the su-prep. 1 reg. glass of the prep was real easy! taste wasn't bad either, just like grape flavored cough med.
I tried 3 diff. kinds of store bought broth and it was nasty! Worst part of the prep.
I just lived on gatorade and jello. The jello did great in calming the urge to eat.
I used vaseline for the anal burn-did great, no cramping at all.
i just drink a lot of juice and broth. i only like one kind of broth and it's the vegetarian broth made by market district giant eagle. some veggie broths have tomato in them and i HATE the taste of it.
current meds: remicade every 8 weeks- not working at all. i'm going in for infusion march 28 and if that doesn't help, i'm stopping it.
other things i am trying- low residue diet, vit E enemas, renew life probiotics, selenium and iron (very anemic right now), and l-glutamine.
having lots of diarrhea and urgency ever since i took a 2 week break from my probiotics. dumbest decision ever.
