I looked and looked for the "I consider myself healed" thread because I was interested in the book mentioned "The Self-Help Way to Treat Colitis and other IBS Conditions" by Dr. DeLamar Gibbons, MD.
I thought the discussion was interesting and valuable. Did someone complain or was it the decision of the moderators?
I just don't understand. Censoring bothers me.
I ordered the book and have just given it an initial browse and think it could be a big help to many UC'ers. It is not kooky at all, the author is not selling anything, is a medical doctor and it is very well written with a lot of studies cited.
I follow a modified SCD diet but the diet suggested by Dr. Gibbons is also on the same path: no sugar including fruits, no dairy except hard cheese and butter. And interestingly, taking a calcium (carbonate) pill to counteract bile acid in the stomach which some people do in other ways such as antacids like Pepcid or Tums.
When I have time to read it thoroughly I'll make a report on exactly what it says to do dietwise but the basics are as above: no sugar, no fruits, no dairy except hard cheese and butter. Interestingly it is not gluten-free but suggests white bread rather than anything else. Also thinks fiber is not so good for UC'ers. Says yes to potatoes, rice and pasta.
I'm trying out the calcium carbonate pill daily.
