Don't feel bad. I went to the same GI specialist for twelve years. All he wanted to do was try more and more meds. The only time he even mentioned the word "surgery" was when Remicade failed after my 3rd infusion and that was spoken in jest because he never actually thought I would even contemplate it. I did give Humira a shot but it did nothing and I was prednisone dependent for two years.
My GI doctor said he didn't "know" a colorectal surgeon . Well, I am glad he didn't because I found a wonderful one online. I went to Philly for my operation. I don't trust south Jersey hospitals OR colorectal surgeons in this area.
Post op, one of the resident surgeon's phoned my GI doctor and asked about my usual prednisone taper. The SOB never asked what my condition was OR how the surgery went...NOTHING!!! Here's a guy who treated me for twelve years and I was in his office practically every month for the two years prior to my surgery. What a moron. He expected me to see him post-op!!! I asked my surgeon if I needed to see a GI doctor and he said, "Not unless you have upper GI problems, which I don't foresee." Needless to say, I never returned to that GI doctor. Or any GI doctor for that matter..lol.
