Oh boy where to start.
I hae been reading much on diet, fatty acids, eicosanoid pathway, inflammation and IBD over the past few weeks, and I have posted many studies.
Linoleic acid,AA,EPA and DHA, and CLA seem to keep popping up.
My distillation of all this is that AA is really not good, and you have to limit its precursers linoleic acid and ingestion of too much or any AA. The likelyhood is that without AA you will have little inflammation.
My conundrum is that AA is contained in meat and fat, just about anything animal,I have been eating lots of fish, butter, meats, cut out processed foods, chips, crackers, cakes.
Cutting out the chips, cuts out linoleic acid intake.
Inorder to get CLA you need lots of grass fed dairy, which also contains AA.
To lower AA you need to cut out meat, and yes even fish.
But then again too many carbs raises insulin, which causes more AA production.
Here is a study on RA where they had to cut the ingested AA to 90mg/day to get the fish oil to work.
This Doc explains the study.
Here is a good article by Dr. Sears, looks like he has written the Zone diet, will have to look into that.
Anyway it explains the pathways in laymens terms.
I guess what this boils down to is keep AA and linoleic acid that you ingest as low as possible, this site will give AA amounts in just about all foods. This is now driving me crazy, how can the SCD work on some people it should be very high in AA,but since a lot of carbs are cut out it should lower insulin. SCD never worked for me.
If you go to westin price foundation they say no extra fish oil EPA/DHA pills.
Fixing UC by changing the types of fats you eat will probably work but take a long time, fat has a half life
of 600 days in your body. The trick perhaps is a balance of some type, low AA foods, low linoleic foods.
I know there are quite a few vegetarians on this site, could it be if you are Lacto ovo,eat too much eggs and dairy, or not lacto ovo too much linoleic acid ingested. Don't know not sure all the foods in a vegetarian diet.
TNF-Alpha is a different story.
PS: If the above post seems somewhat confusing it is,since I am confused on which way to go.
As I have said ,SCD does not work on me, but in the past have also tried no meat low sulfur diet, of course did not work. Might have to revisit, now that I know to eliminate linoleic acid, and high AA foods.
Wow it looks like you do not want to eat warm water seafood.
