Re-posted from my original kefir thread...

So, the kefir making seems to be going well! 12 hours seems to suit my kefir just fine, with the warm weather here...I've been drinking some *straight* (without flavorings or making it into a protein shake or anything), and also trying out different protein shakes.

I'm not sure if I'm having a problem digesting it, UC has been getting progressively better (finally have formed stools and going 2-3 times a day), but for the past few days it seems as though my stomach has been acting *upset* (looser stools, more I've gone 5 times already). Could the kefir be upsetting my stomach?

For those of you that drink kefir, did you notice that kefir upset your stomach at first? Should I decrease the amount I'm drinking (currently drinking about 2 cups in the morning), or perhaps move to a dairy-free option? Would goat milk be gentler? Or perhaps this is unrelated to the kefir? I just don't know...I don't want to give it up, but I don't want to give up the headway I've made, either...

Any advice would be appreciated!

Ta and thanks,

Hi, I haven't made kefir, but I do make SCD 24 hr yogurt (with goat milk), basically a probiotic dairy similar to kefir.

I would say this is normal, your dousing your body with a lot of good bugs so it will probably move things along. I think 2 cups is a lot tho. Try having 1 in the morning and one at night.

Yes goat milk will make a more healing drink.

Yeah i think 2 cups is probably overdose to start with. Have you been on dairy up til now? If so then maybe it's not an issue to be drinking that much. But i'd say it woudl be a shock to the systme and it might be better to build up gradually from a much smaller dose.

I agree that you should slowly move up to 2 cups. start with 1, 1/2 in am 1/2 in pm. Yes my kefir caused tummy upset at first. It was getting rid of toxins so it kind of flushed me out... Keep at it if you can.
12 hours is fast though, are you sure its enough time to work?
