I've struggled with hair loss for about
10 years now. I was on Asacol for a long time (over 5 years) and had very thick hair - it used to take me 45 mins to dry my long, thick hair. Then it started falling out by the 100s a day with no explanation. I switched to Colazal and it seemed to slow down, but I've had thin hair ever since (it never will be as thick again my dermatologist told me). I do still get hair sheds whenever I have some very stressful event in my life or if I am coming off Prednisone.
I know, for me, I left my hair very long. Even though it 'seemed' like more hair was coming out cause they are longer strands, I just felt like my long hair covered up the thinner spots better. Everybody tells me how much they like my hair and nobody ever seemed to notice how thin it had gotten except for me and my hairstylist. When I was getting depressed about it shedding, I would just put it up in a hair clip so I didn't have to think about it. While combing it I'd always be very careful and hold the strands at the top while combing so I wouldn't pull on my scalp. I also use Ketocanazole shampoo (prescription) and Nizoral - plus I use Aveda products which just seem to keep my hair healthy.
Just some advice from somebody who's been through it before! Try not to stress about it, it will stop.
