sounds like you already got a lot of great advice.
I, too work out all the time. Both during flares and not. I'm an avid runner, but have been struggling lately running outside. I've had some tough runs where i barely make it to the bathroom. Those days are no fun, but I continue on and still get good exercise. On the bad days I will have to stop and walk which seems to help a lot. And walking is still good exercise. On days I don't feel confident going outside I go to the gym. In addition to always doing some cardio I take about 2-3 boot camp classes thru 24hr fitness and 1-2 body pump (strength training) classes each week. I've recently tried adding cycle classes, but can't seem to get into it. One area I continue to struggle with whether in remission or not is holding plank (ab exercise) or doing ab exercises targeting the obleeks. I don't have a clue if it's bc my UC or what. I think if you have no problems working out at home, where theres a bathroom nearby, nothing should stop you from trying any exercise. Just do as you said, and listen to your body.
Oh and I stopped drinking whey protein shakes because it contains milk by-products (whey). I switched to Jay Robbs egg white protein shakes. I have done a lot of research and also have a sister who is a personal trainer. The average person really doesn't need an extensive amount of extra protein from shakes and bars, etc. Body builders and heavy weight lifters use protein shakes to get really big and muscley. Which I don't think you want. It is okay to add them periodically especially on a good workout day. The lil extra protein will help your muscles rejuvenate and heal quicker.
Good luck to you and just know you are not alone.
