Pink....your symptoms are exactly the same as I suffered. My condition was labeled moderate proctitis. If it were moderate, I would hate to suffer with severe .
Anyway, sounds like your mind set is not quite at the surgery level yet. I had UP for twelve years but was not diagnosed until I was 52 yrs old. At the time I decided on surgery I was prednisone dependent for two years straight and on it far too many times to count before that. 6MP, Remicade and Humira all failed. My GI doctor didn't think methotrexate (not sure of the spelling) would work for me. He did NOT want me to have surgery. I found the colorectal surgeon online. I was in a state of denial at just how ill I had become. Prednisone gave me full blown osteoporosis, uncontrollable high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes. In a nutshell, if I didn't opt for surgery, I am convinced I would not be here today. However, I was also 63 yrs old at time of surgery. I was not a candidate for j-pouch because of my failing health.
Today, I feel 100% better. I had a total colectomy with end ileo. My blood pressure is very well controlled with only 1 pill a day and I no longer have diabetes.
This is just my story. I have a friend who is doing very well on Rowasa enemas and VSL#3. Everyone is different. You have to go with what you feel is best for you. God bless.
