I just saw my GI doctor today , and I told her that after two years on Remicade, it's becoming less effective, i.e., i'm in remission  4 weeks out of 6. She says we could increase the dosage from 5mg to 10 mg per kg, but since I'm already having side effects from it , it would'nt be a good idea. I'm having a scope next month , and depending on the results, we might switch to Humira.
For those of you who went from remicade to humira , did you have to wait a period of time to get the remicade out of your system. For how long?
Thanks :)

I switched from Remicade to Humira and had virtually no "waiting period" for getting the Remicade out, doctor said it doesn't matter. I think I had my last infusion of Remicade and had my first Humira like 3 or 4 weeks later or something like that. Not to be debbie downer though but the switch did not work for me, in fact recently I've been debating with my doctor that I'd like to go back on Remicade evne if it only works for 4 weeks at a time and even if it continues to decline as the Humira and Cimzia have done nothing for me at all and I have zero relief, atleast with Remicade I was good for a few weeks at a time, better than this....... if it ever becomes that Remicade no longer works at all then we can talk other things.... so far he won't bite, wants me to give Cimizia more time... if it doesn't work in the next 2 months he said he'd consider letting me go back on Remicade..... we'll see

Hi...another Debbie Downer here..lol.  I built up antibodies to the Remicade relatively fast, after my 3rd infusion.  I did go for a 4th infusion, but I felt horrible.  My last infusion of the Remi was in Feb of 2010 and I believe the doctor started me on Humira three weeks later.  I tried it for three months, but no change in my condition cry .  He didn't think it would work because Remicade seems to be the "big daddy" of the biologics, but his nurse said there are some success stories out there.  The doctor wanted to then try Cimzia and if that didn't work Orenzia ..but by then I had had it with the disease.  I was already prednisone dependent for two years straight and on it numerous times during the twelve years I suffered with UP.  The 6MP never did keep me in remission.
I had surgery June 28, 2010....feel great yeah !  Wonderful to be off all that poison.
