During my last flare one of my symptoms was crippling arthritis to the point where I had trouble climbing stairs. But the arthritis disappeared when the flare ended. So I agree with your doctors that UC is probably a factor.
But I began getting normal joint pains about
20 years ago in my 40's. I even thought of replacing my new car and buying another with an automatic transmission because my knee hurt negotiating the clutch. But taking omega-3 flax oil really helped. Later I found that daily fish oil was slightly more effective.
Another factor is to get your blood levels of vitamin D checked. I need 5,000 IU per day to remain in the optimum range. Many here take it for their UC but it is also effective for joint pain. It is a panacea for everything.
You could also try SAMe. Supposedly it is very effective for joint pain. It is pricey but I intended to try it if nothing else worked.
