Runawaybride- don't be sad- you have lots of options, and if you dont like them or they all fail, surgery is not the end of the world at all. I am about
to commit to surgery myself, after failing to get a pred free remission on just about
every med and alternative therapy under the sun, including diet, imuran, multiple biologics, multiple worm therapies, fecal therapy, LDN, various probiotics, turmeric, boswellia.. The list goes on and on- the only thing that works for me rather well is low dose prednisone, but i am not going to continue that forever- I am just about
to try a last ditch test of rifaximin, a non systemic antibiotic, but I expect it will fail and in that case I am done with this stupid disease and am going to get joouch surgery, in order to stop calling in sick too often and above all to start getting active in the manyoutdoor sports and hobbies that I have backburnred now for too many years.
Anyway, you should consult with a top, experienced lapro jpouch surgeon , like I did, and have them ready for you , and the option in your pocket upon request- thait makes trying various therapies much more tolerable, knowing that you can bail whenever you want. I never thought I'd finally throw in the towel but I feel ready now. Talk to people like suebear- she will help put you at ease. The bottom line is that with a jpouch one poops when one pees... For the vast majority that is the only big lifestyle change, and for those with severe UC it actually means less bathroom visits. Since one is in and out of the loo in a couple minutes or less with a jpouch, I gather one ends up spending much less time, in a 24 h period, in the bathroom than even a normie.
