I normally go to bathroom just 2 - 4 times during whole day except bed time. However, I go at least 5 more times during the bed time. I can hardly sleep over the night everyday. I can not remember when I have had a good sleep.

Is this common to all UC? Any suggestion?

this is pretty common. i've been going around 3-4 times a day the past week and i can literally time when they will be- always when i'm sleeping. i usually have 1 at night but 2-3 are usually during the sleeping hours 12 am-12pm. it's tough to go to bed afterwards because i end up being awake in the bathroom.

I haven't slept for more than 2 hours at time for almost 6 weeks now because of this very problem. I'm up anywhere from 3-6 times every night having to go to the bathroom. And the few nights I get 3 hours or so without having to go, I haven't been able to fall asleep....I'm guessing because of the Pred I'm on, which is NOT helping me! It is all SO frustrating!!
DX:6/12 Ulcerative Proctitis,got into/kept remission w/1 Canasa nightly
Current BAD Flare began late 11/12
Flex Sig 12/14/12: Ulcerative Colitis, moderate/severe.
Taken off Canasa, put on Pred 40 mg/day,12 days later Pred upped to 60mg/day, now back to 40.
First Remicade infusion 1/15/13
Rowasa(generic)hard to retain due to frequency/urgency .
Very little improvement, if any. MAJOR weight loss!

It might have something to do with your eating habits. If your biggest meal of the day is dinner that may be the cause. Try eating a bigger lunch and a smaller meal in the evening and see what happens. Just remember that if I am right then your worst time of the day may come 5 hours earlier than it is now. It may also have something to do with eating different kinds of foods than what you eat for breakfast or lunch. It could also have something to do with the timing of meds.

Small dinner. Yes I will try. Actually I have tried one time, but I went back to normal.

garylouisville, I know it's all different result to different people. But how do you sleep at night? Did it help?

I think it is just how my system works. While flaring I have been eating more early in the day than I do later in the day, the foods I eat later should be easier on my system too, and I don't eat anything 3-4 hours before bed. No matter what, I'm up at night. I have noticed my frequency go down slightly since my first Remicade infusion the other day. Way less during the day and only 2 or 3 trips at night....hopefully this trend continues! All I can say about getting some sleep is if you can, nap during the day when you aren't going as much.

When I was flared up, I was never able to sleep through the night. It was one of my biggest problems. Have you tried any other medications besides Apriso and prednisone? Some of us do well with rectal mesalamine.

Kevin. I was just giving you advice. I actually sleep pretty well at night most of the time. I usually eat no breakfast, small lunch, and big dinner.

Frequency going down slightly! Yeah, I wish it happens to me too!

I have tried some liquid rectal mesalamine (I don't remember the name), but I could have not hold it.

I have also tried Canasa, but I've got c-diff infection during/after Canasa. So I am afraid of using Canasa. No more rectal thing after that.

garylouisville, yes it's all different. But that was still a good idea to try. I will see if that works for me.
