Somedude is right. I "cured" my first autoimmune disease by getting allergy shots, which I continue to this day. I haven't had a problem in over 10 years. Unfortunately, that seemed to work for me only and did not seem to help anyone else with the same disease and it doesn't seem to have anything to do with my UC. I noticed a correlation over an almost 10 year period between relapses I would experience every fall and a discovered problem I had with fall allergens. I went down this road pretty much on my own, taking the doctors with me. Most of them literally laughed at the idea. My allergist went along with my idea and thought that there could maybe be an indirect cause of my disease related to fall allergies. It worked in me but I can't say that the allergist treated me any differently than one of his regular allergy patients. He was treating me for allergies, not my autoimmune disease.
The only reason I went down this road at all was that I discovered a direct correlation between fall allergies and having a relapse of my disease, every single year. In other words, I had a clue and it took me 10 years to figure this clue out. Without a good clue you are just taking wild shots in the pitch black dark, trying to hit a small moving target. These diseases are diseases where you have to be Sherlock Holmes and follow the leads of clues and see where they take you. Things that help can be clues but sometimes the very best clues are things that make you worse. Without good clues it is hard to know which direction to go in.
