@Pluot~ No worries about
stalking....I was reading my Mom stuff from your blog the other night and feel like we have some similarities in our journey with UC. If Flagyl gives me ANY relief it will be more than steroids ever did for me, so that would be great! I did already mention to my GI that I don't want to take surgery off the table even if this does seem to clear things up, and he didn't tell me I was crazy, so I guess that's good. And yes, I do have concerns about
my next Remicade infusion. Not only because of the surgery implications, but the very good chance that it played a big part in getting/activating this C Diff in the first place. So much to think about
and deal with....nothing can ever be simple!! How are you doing since surgery?
@Gary~ That totally makes sense about
certain drugs weakening the system to the point of making an inactive infection like this blow up. I wasn't on antibiotics, but did start to feel what I'm guessing was the C Diff about
2 days after my last Remicade infusion. Just another reason to be nervous about
taking that drug again!
@Bananagirl~ Sorry to hear you are dealing with this too and that it landed you in the hospital. My fever seemed to resolve itself, though I did take lots of Tylenol, but I do feel it coming back from time to time, even did last night. My doc said to let him know if I didn't see an improvement in my other symptoms, mostly frequent D, in the next couple days and we could try another drug....probably the one you are on I'm guessing. I picked up 2 boxes of saccharomyces boulardii at a natural earth store today and hope that helps me out some too. We'll have to keep each other posted on what we're doing and how we are progressing with this darn infection.
@Quincy~ Thanks....seems like the hits just keep coming! I wasn't on any probiotics before, as I was just focused on getting my flare somewhat under control and researching exactly what I wanted to take. I did get some of the saccharomyces boulardii today, and will start with that. Trick will be figuring out WHEN to take everything. I now have my pred in the morning, 3 doses of Flagyl throughout the day and the probiotic! The s. boulardii says it can be taken with or without food because it is actually a probiotic yeast and survives all stomach acid and what not. And, the doc said I should space out the antibiotic and probiotic a bit....so I guess I'll try taking the probiotic around dinner time, halfway between my 2nd and 3rd Flagyl doses. What fun!!
