What gets me is when the doctors present themselves as the experts when in fact they do not know the cause or the cure or even which treatment to relieve symptoms is going to work in which individual. It also gets me when they expect you to take dangerous drugs like steroids, immunemodulators, and biologics like they are candy. They can sometimes get tuned out as to what effect these drugs are going to have on their patients and just want to go by the book, no matter what these drugs wind up doing to their patients.
There are occasions when they expect their patients to take these drugs and yet when one of them comes down with the very same disease they treat themselves differently than the way they treat their own patients. This happened to me with my first autoimmune disease. They were pumping false sunshine up my butt and telling me a bunch of stuff about
treatments that they knew was very misleading and basically not even true. They quoted treatment procedures where the book says you do this first, second, third, and so on. When one of their fellow doctors came down with the same disease that I did all of a sudden first wasn't first and third wasn't third. I was basically forced to have surgery that didn't even work when that doctor went straight to option number 5 and avoided surgery because he knew that even if it worked chances are that it would only work short term only.
Now I'm not saying there aren't any doctors out there that wouldn't be good for us but they need to be up front with us, tell us the truth, and admit that they are basically limited to treating the symptoms only and that it could be a while before they luck on to the combination that may finally work on us. They also need to tell us the truth about
the meds they put us on instead of poo pooing them like they are dishing out candy. They need to tell us all of the bad things that can happen to us being on pred long term, like bone loss, diabetes, mood changes, no sleep, withdrawyl effects, etc. Why don't they tell us that the pred is going to only work while on it and as soon as we taper down or off our symptoms will return? They need to tell us that we may get lymphoma from other meds and not play it down like it is only about
a 1% chance so we really don't have to worry about
it. When was the last time a doc told us that a certain med had given tens of thousands of people cancer, instead of saying, "the risk is actually quite small". Sometimes they just shove the risk paper in front of you to sign when not even telling you the risks.
