Week 1 & 2
Well the first week and starting dosage made some significant improvements in symptoms. The immediate change in odor to normal, the full sized normal stool, one or twice bowel movements etc. Although not perfect things were pretty good but it was highly dependent on what I ate as per usual. Also it was hard to tell if this was Prednisone/Immuran combo at work - not the amino acid therapy.
Week 3 & 4
It was decided at the end of week three to make a dosage change and add L-Dopa three times daily to the starting dose. At the same time I was just finishing tapering Pednisone to zero. The combination of the two threw my system in a big flare. Blood, Lot's of D, Mucus, urgency, sometimes just bowel movements of pure mucus and blood. It was a rough week and I thought I would have to call the GI. I stuck it through till I heard back from lab on the urine analysis - and upon talking with the doctor he said my lab results were a little confusing - they were not sure if I was at what they call Level 1 or level 3... In any case it was decided I should reduce the L-Dopa from 3 times daily to twice daily.
The results of this change -
Overnight all D disappeared. Which was crazy. Very solid formed stool the next morning. Blood and mucus prevailed but was not anywhere near as bad. Since that dosage change, everyday there has been less and less blood to the point of none as of today. Mucus is minimal now as well although still slightly present but only on occasion at this point. Urgency decreased to the point where it's not bothering me and I have even made it back to rowing for exercise twice a day. All this from one simple adjustment.
I'm surprised to say the least. Off all Prednisone and should technically be in a pretty bad flare based on past history.
At this point I feel there is something to this after all...
Never have I had an overnight response like that other than from a very large dose of prednisone.
One more urine test to take this Thursday and I should get the results and the dosage change back by next Thursday. Will be very, very interesting to see what happens between now and then - as well as after the next change.
Again, at this point I would remain on this therapy for good if this is the best it gets. I feel somewhat normal again to a high degree.
