Hello folks,

A friend of mine, who practices really healthy lifestyle has been suffering from fissures for a while. She consulted a few GIs but it didn't get her anywhere except temporary symptom relief. Now she is consulting with an integrative Health practitioner. This practitioner ordered a ton of tests for her and really weird results showed up i.e. something that she did not expect.

The tests were performed at Genova Diagnostics and the test package is called as NutrEval. This package tests a TON of things. List is too big to post here. It identified her allergy to various food stuffs, the vitamin levels etc. etc. Her hormonal levels (Endocrine Panel) were tested at Pharmasan Labs. The hormones tested were cortisol, DHEA and Sex hormones. It turns out that her cortisol levels are off (and she has never been on Pred). She has been given a preparation called as Calm-CP.

Now she has been suggested to avoid allergenic foods and take this supplement to fix her HPA axis.

After reading these test results, I started wondering if there is anyone here who did something similar and found something that they did not expect. AFAIK, fissures is also inflammatory condition, may be little different than UC. So can a UC patient see something like this? Of course, this is an umbrella question that will vary from patient to patient but I am here to ask if anyone has given this thing a shot?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Delta,

I've had every test under the sun it's seems from a NP doctor. They are fricken expensive! I've done blood, stool, allergy, dna and geno profile. I do like these tests, I do believe they help. The only test that was done that was out of the box was the Lyme's test which should positive.

I've had a fissure for years! I had a skin tag they cut off at one time, but that did nothing in two weeks there was a bigger tag there.  It actually then had a lump in it and it bleed constantly and was painful and finally this past summer I had it removed and that was the best for me! Now my bum hole looks completely normal and I'm happy!

I just wanted to write and tell you I like this company and like their tests I hope she finds relief.

i absolutely believe in the value of these tests - but i try to keep in mind that they are just a tool, not a fix - you have to rely on your practitioner (or huckster) to do something with the test results - that's where the challenge comes in -

i have been thinking about doing another round of testing - which seems kinda silly since i'm feeling well, but i want to stay that way -

Genova is a reputable testing company. It sounds like she's been given a wealth of information to help guide her treatment. Identifying food allergies/sensitivities, hormonal imbalances, vitamin deficiencies… these are all important pieces of the puzzle.

Actually, from the test results, they also provide you with the solutions, for e.g. her Vit D levels are dangerously low and the test report tells her to take 4000IU of Vit. D daily to get the levels to normal. This sort of thing is one piece of the puzzle but my main intention of posting this here was, if anyone has done these tests to straighten up any issue that 'could be' causing them to put in flare or keeping inflammation high so as not to achieve remission.

Honestly, I am not at all worried about my UC because I think my major problem is not UC but migraine and whatever I use to abort migraine puts me in flare, one or the other way. My suspicion is, at some point, both of these conditions are connected so if these tests give me a pointer to fix it, I could possibly hit 2 birds in one stone.

I just want to know from those who have done these tests, if they got such pointer..

good point df - myself, like others on this forum, believe this is a whole body problem, not just specific to our colons - that's why my focus is more about being healthy than fixing a single issue - i.e. an ihp -

Interesting thread as I've been considering seeing an integrative med dr. Just for general care, not just uc. Deltaforce, I have migraines too and I feel like surely there must be a connection.

I do think the integrative approach is the best one given all the things that have worked for people on this forum.

Things like resistant starches, amino acid therapy, spinach+sunflower seed should not be discounted because they appear to be benefiting some people here.

I'm going to be seeing one shortly because I'm suffering so much every day.

@Chinamom,
As and when I have discussed my headache with any specialist and told them that my mom had it as well, they disregard that part of history. They ALWAYS connect female headaches to hormonal cycles but I honestly think that can not be the only reasons ladies get headaches.

BTW, what do you use for your migraines, as prophylactics as well as abortive?

Just vitamin b2 as a prophylactic, I'd like to try magnesium too but worry about the mg affecting my colon. I use alert when I get a migraine . It's one of the triptans. Works ok but the headaches are pretty chronic, about nine per month. I have a prescription for propanolol as a preventative to take daily but am afraid to try it.
