I've gotten aphthous ulcers along my bottom gumline since 1976. I always thought it might have been herpes related since it comes with a LOT of ear and face pain and follows a definite nerve route. It lasts about
5 - 7 days. But the doc did a swab when it was most "active" and nadda.
The OraJel Mouth Sore with zinc helps with the pain and I think healing.
I've not noticed that it follows flares. It can be triggered sometimes if I've flossed and cut a gum. But that, too, could be coincidental.
I sometimes get tiny (but painful) ones on the sides of my tongue, but that could be related to food. They're gone in a day by using the OraJel Mouth Sore with zinc.
I've had only 2 deep ulcers on my tongue since UC diagnosis...they lasted 2 weeks and took a long time for the tissue afterward to heal over. Cannot remember if they were related to a flare or not...but they were definitely memorable.
I also have geographic tongue...a PITA.
*Heather* I give suggestions, do with them what you will.
