Edbar, that would be my best shot.. lyme literate MD or a Rheumatologist or Immunologist that says they are familiar with stealth pathogens.. Specifically those words, stealth pathogens. If they dont believe in stealth pathogens, dont waste your time. Stay away from Infectious disease. Also, no one that is affiliated with IDSA- just cause they go on the "approved" treatment plans and I dont see alot of success in the stealth pathogen community, to be honest, in hitting things willy nilly with multiple drug cocktails.
I will say this.. some lyme literate docs are kinda gung ho with their untested and constantly morphing treatment plans. I would not treat anything without a a positive laboratory test result.. and still Id be cautious. Id also find out my MTHFR status. If your genotype predisposes you to chronic illness you need to try and overcome that before you can make any serious headway in treating any stealth pathogen.
Comprehensive stool analysis is huge.. None of those labcorp, or local lab ones.. the hospital ones are also worthless. You need something that takes 3 weeks so that it grows out the pathogen so someone can see it. Metametrix/Genova is more mainstream these days and has a panel that I did that let me see I was outta balance and returned a pathogen/parasite present, taxonomy unknown so I knew to keep looking.. However, it just told me something was wrong, but never caught exactly what even after 3 parasite present, taxonomy unknowns. I like diagnostech's GI panel better. It saliva tests for several common pathogens plus it returned results for me regarding a saprophytic fungi that was complicating my healing and has some colitis markers to help you gauge levels of inflammation if you havent had a scope recently. It cost me 285 out of pocket, my insurance would not cover it. It was also a 3 day test. I think that is important, a single stool test is like looking for a very very small needle in a gigantic haystack. I timed it during the fullmoon because that is when most pathogens/parasites are the most active.
I absolutely do NOT trust muscle testing or folks that just start treating you based on symptoms. There are things you can do to help pathogens come out, like a short trial of ABX, then testing after the pathogens start rebounding. But anyone who talks about
putting a person on long rounds of abx with no lab tests should be ran from.
I do think that I am very lucky to have found a fantastic doctor. They are rare. Short of you coming to CA, I dont really know how to help you find one. I read stories from other people with stealth pathogens that make me twitchy.. so many end up with empty bank accounts and no better.
Invest in lab tests above expensive supplements. Some times it takes multiple tests or very expensive tests to find the pathogen. Try to become a member of any local support groups that you have that are centered around lyme, chronic fatigue or fibromyalgia and see what doctors they recommend.. pay attention to the treatments and how they got at their diagnosis. Some people will do ANYTHING to get well and unfortunately there are doctors out there taking advantage of that. If the person tells you that they have been with a doc for a long time and they are still so sick but have done a billion treatments, be wary.
Good luck to you. If you are in CA, let me know and Ill send you my doc's name. He accepts insurance and is friggin amazing.
