Yes! I had three of my teeth chip on prednisone. I actually never thought it was connected until you mentioned it.

I ended up having my dentist grind them down because they were so sharp and uncomfortable in my mouth. Yeah definitely keep up with calcium and vitamin d.

It's definitely bad for your teeth. I don't know the medical terminology or the why but I know my gums were recessing and I was having a lot of tooth issues by the end of my pred use. Go to the dentist for sure.

Dentist told me that steroid use is bad for connective tissue that anchors teeth to gums, as well as for the jawbones. Gum-chewing is not a good idea either because it can stick to fillings. Many people with digestive disorders grind their teeth while asleep, which can lead to cracks and chips. I even ground off part of a new molar crown yrs back when my UC was flaring bigtime. / Old Hat (32 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

Everytime i'm on pred my teeth really hurt when i drink cold drinks. I try to keep my vitamin D and calcium levels high enough while i'm on prednisone.

i think it might just be a filling cause the hole feels round. id rather have that falling off than part of my teeth. im going to give the dentist a call today.

Pred is as hard on your teeth as it is on your bones. I had great teeth until after high doses of pred in the first year or so of my diagnosis. Now, I have multiple crowns and a root canal. My sibling, who doesn't have IBD, is over 50 years old and doesn't even have a single cavity.

Thanks for this post my teeth have been sensitive and hurting lately. I thought I had a cavity or something but I tried a gluten free cookie and man It really hurt my teeth. Rising with cold water seems to make them sensitive. I need to go to the dentist anyway but thanks for this post.

I read about this before and have been concerned. Are we ok to drink milk in a flare?

i don't drink milk only because i think i have a lactose intolerance. if it doesn't bother you, then you can drink it. i usually buy goat's milk and make it into kefir so the lactose is gone. this is great for flares since it has more strains of bacteria than yogurt and a ton of probiotics.
