It is absolutely OK to work out during a flare. I have worked out before, during and after a flare. MY GI says it is worse to not exercise. Obviously, not everyone is the same but I had real concerns with my crossfit workouts hurting me (Typical workout consists of 500-600 sit ups, 50-75 Burpee's and heavy weightlifting-all in a row, for time) I have discussed my workouts and workout competitions in detail with my GI and he said, in no uncertain terms, that exercise, even serious cardio exercise will not hurt my condition. He was right-even at my worst point of my flare, it did not bother me at all.
***If you are weak from UC symptoms, talk to your GI first. My symptoms were not D and urgency***
