I stumbled into something rather shocking, shocking in a good way.
After dealing w/ ulcerate colitis for 25 years, I stumbled into something serious.
I tried wild Mediterranean oregano oil for what I figured was sinus infection.
I first took it for about a week and than stopped totally because my method of consumption was extreme.
I was looking for max absorption, each day I held 4 drops in my mouth for several mins. before swallowing.
After swallowing stood by with waiting water/juice chaser,( lol) it's very nasty like this.

I didn't realize what had happened until a week after stopping the oil, my colitis hit a speed bump. Like starting a steroid or a quick change for the better.
After stopping, the colitis went back to the previous state. The previous state being semi under control with proper diet and zero meds. Like always, one poor choice/single bite away from getting issues. And a few day of bad choices to heading down the rabbit hole to damage.
In any event, it was shocking results enough to have vowed to re-introduce this oil soon. I wanted to make sure something else wasn't a factor. Again, meds not taken months before, during or since.
A month later (about 4 month ago now) I re-started the oil as before, fairly quickly colitis and gas seems non existent.
I am still in shock months later. I am so certain that this method may help others and I am dying to hear the results...

I later looked up what oregano oil was good for, and it all made sense.

No, I am not some kind of sales person for this product...

interesting.. i did read a short post somewhere else before about somebody else who has used oregano oil to help with her UC. I cant remember exactly what she had written, or if she had gone into remission, but I think its definitely worth looking into...

So basically you are watching your diet, with no meds but maintaining your condition with the oregano oil? I am on a suppository right now, along with a few supplements and majorly watching my diet, but just cant seem to go into total remission (been in a flare for 2 years now), so obviously, I am desperate to try something else out.

Start off slow, one drop and keep it near front of mouth so you dont gag.
Hope it helps...

Interesting. I just looked it up and found an article stating:

"Recent research shows oil of oregano beneficial to the colon and liver. It is helpful in combating diarrhea, intestinal gas..... New research is finding that oil of oregano is as effective against colitis as prescription drugs without the harmful side effects."

That's enough for me! I'm going to buy some today. Even though I've been in a semi-remission I'm always looking for new things.

Thanks,
John

Oregano oil kills pathogens. Keep it up. You can also get empty gel caps and put it in them, then you can get it closer to the gut. I think gini Patel even has a wild oregano oil enema protocol, which sounds horribly painful.

I like to use something standardized to ATLEASt 80% carvalcol.

Hope it keeps helping.

Source Naturals oil is standardized to 70% carvacrol, which I read is the minimum that should be considered, so 70% and better. I am going to give this a shot.

Yeah, I really like to minimize people lol...who the heck are you? You know absolutely nothing about me. I'm entitled to my opinion. :)

"so what exactly is the problem shawn ?"

it's amusing to me, no problem. I thought that was obvious.

Actually you are correct. There have been quite a few times one time posters have posted some form of great treatment only to end up with "roll eyes" or "here we go again" or "spam" or etc.

Saosin, you just took the wrong topic to voice your opinion, bro. The masses have approved this one.

I should go check a few years back what kind of reception the spinach and sunflower seeds got when it was first posted lol.

Oregano oil has been around as a alternative UC treatment for years and years, nothing new.
Been there done that many many years ago. Does not mean it will not help someone else,even though
did nothing for me. Whatever site I may have found it on years ago is most likely gone by now.

Yeah, I tried it also. I learned about it from Jinny Patel's book. I tried, didn't see anything special. I dunno.

Here's a link to Jini's report:

jptwellnesscircle.s3.amazonaws.com/free_ebooks_and_reports/wild-oregano-oil.pdf

Wild oregano oil is antiviral, antifungal and antimicrobial. It's a great way to eliminate gut pathogens that might play a role in UC.
Diagnosed with ulcerative colitis spring 1999. Have been in remission for years with only a few minor blips. Last two scopes showed no inflammation at all.

Maintenance dose sulfasalazine. Probiotics, vitamin D, fiber supplement and fish oil caps. George's aloe vera juice and l-glutamine for gut healing. Currently using autoimmune Paleo diet.

I hope the oregano helps some people, I am eager to hear about it.
One other personal thought, I believe it may be important to break it down with saliva prior to hitting the stomach. Fullest possible absorbtion may have been the key for me.

Saosin, it's good not to believe everything you read and only half of what you see. If you're looking to help yourself you may want to pay attention to how many years of experience people have versus how many posts they make.
25 years of learning  and countless trials of products has given myself and others knowledge.
All respect for everyone... reading and posting in this site. May we learn from each other...

Ive tried it but didnt notice a difference in most of my uc symptoms. It did help with bloating though. I have no bad things to say about it. Just wish it worked better! I plan on using it again for colds/flus if i ever get one.

I've been using it, 5 drops in a small amount of POM juice every night before bed and I find it does help, no full remission from it by any means but we're all different...it's been known for years to aid with gut issues and many many more issues as well, skin, bad breath issues as well, so externally and internally...it's an easy google to find the benefits of oil of oregano...I use high concentrated from Sangsters health food store.

It's a bit extreme to use it by itself on the tongue like that though, it's very potent and has quite a peppery smell/taste to it.
bee propolis caps 500mg one cap twice/day
omegas 369 caps one cap twice/day
probiotics 10 billion cfu once/day
vitamins C-calcium ascorbate (easy on the gut) and vitamin A each once/day
Prodiem fibre supplement one cap before bed
I've also altered my diet (no junky stuff at all, processed, fast-foods, refined sugars, ect) and exercise regularly.
I went from 30+ bloody BM's/day with lots of lower back pain to an average of 5/day no bleeding no back pain and completely formed stools, still have severe urgency issues.
~~~~~~~~My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it! LOL :)~~~~~~~~
Tried it a couple times over the years and each time it flared me, and I recovered after I stopped. But most natural antibiotics and anti-inflammatories made me worse- eg boswellia, aloe juice, and slippery elm all flared me. Circumin was one of the rare exceptions- tolerated that fine, though it never did a thing for me.
I had a similar experience to 25yearsw/colitis in terms of using oregano oil mixed diluted with saline for a sinus infection, later I also used it for an ear infection. It was extremely effective for those infections and I don't intend to use regular anti-biotics ever again. I didn't find out about wild oregano oil until after I had already gotten my Colitis symptoms under control, I consider completely cured, however my initial Colitis flare in 1999 was driven into remission using Cipro for which I have seen wild oregano oil compared to in terms of its broad spectrum impact on bacteria.
Cured myself Ulcerative Colitis by self-administered fecal transplants in summer 2011 and still symptom-free as of June 2013 with no ongoing medications or dietary restrictions!
For more about my story on how I used fecal transplants in combination with drugs and diet to permanently cure myself of Ulcerative Colitis go to my website: www.fecaltransplant.org
Folks, I am checking back in. Did anyone else try this and get results ???
I stopped the oregano over a month ago. I have been doing so well that I have gained 15 pounds (150, up to 165).
Impossible for me, being 145lbs when really flaring and a high of 152 lbs when on meds and being very careful.
Keep in mind, this is drugless...zero meds. Eating things that would give me blood with in hours, even if I was well.
Jesus, I hope this helps some of you
Dennis
