The mucous is most likely due to inflammation in the rectum, which takes a long time to completely heal. Keep up with your mesalamine enemas, as that is the main treatment for rectal inflammation. You will get better day by day.
If your bleeding is stopped and you are down to a reasonable frequency of BMs it might be time to start tapering the pred, but talk to your DR first. If you aren't having bad side effects from the pred perhaps you shouldn't rush to taper.
