I am with Tornado6, I have periods VERY infrequently. I used to be on Yasmin and "gave myself" a period (by skipping a week of active pills) maybe twice a year. I pretty much hold out as long as I feel like and after a while (six months or so) start to have a little breakthrough bleeding, which resolves if I "have a real period."
I switched to Lutera this year because of the increased blood clot risk associated with Yasmin, since UCers are also more susceptible to blood clots. I've been taking Lutera continuously (with the total approval of my GYN -- she even wrote continuous on the prescript
ion, so I am able to get 18 packs per year instead of 13!) and I tend to have breakthrough bleeding necessitating a "week off" about
every two months, but I think it is going to settle down when I am on it for longer.
Anyway, short story, it is 100% OK to take BC continuously in order to skip periods, but you have to use a monophasic pill.
