A little Background. I have been UC med free for awhile (mainly because they simply do not work-Ive tried most all of them including enema's). I have been having a difficult time getting rid of trace amounts of Mucus and Blood. I have no urgency issues or D. My GI did not want to try pred or any other harder drug to get rid of the remaining B+M as it would be overkill and potentially cause problematic side effects. He did mention that some of his patients have found relief with Olive Leaf Extract. I purchased some from Amazon and found *some* relief but not enough to continue use after a month. I saw some of the posts on here about Wild Oregano Oil and thought I would give it a go. I bought the strongest Carvacol available (85%)and highest rated (based on Amazon).

I started taking this a week ago and did not have real high hopes. After 3 days, the blood was completely gone and now, 7 days later the mucus seems to be gone as well. I am not sure this will continue but could not be more pleased with the results, so far. I have been taking approx. 15 drops, throughout the day. It is CRITICAL you take Primadolphilus Reuteri with this or it will burn.

You have a smart doctor. Jini Patel Thompson had a nice way of taking it here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ryheQSdYHc

Many formulations of oregano oil are mixed with olive oil to prevent burning issues.

I'm glad you are doing well. I hope I live long enough to see your age.

Hello pro, that sounds like my post not that long ago.
I was sure the wild oregano oil would help at least someone !
You go proto !!!!

Your general situation sounded similar to mine so... close to under control w/ out meds.
Are you just swallowing the drops right away ? or holding it in mouth (my method).

How long have you been med free prior to taking wild oregano oil ?

I have been adding 5 drops of WOO to a shot of water and slamming it with a water/smoothie chaser, 3X a day. My WOO is 100% pure,85% Carvacol and less than 2% Thymol. It seems to be the strongest I have seen available. I did not understand why you were holding it in your mouth? I could not find any data that suggested to do that-but, whatever works, right?

I have been med free for about 4 months because I was unresponsive to any of them.

Also, from the reports I have read on this board, it seems like some who have tried this did not use the "good" stuff (100% pure,85% Carvacol and less than 2% Thymol) and did not use it long enough because of the significant burning (The first time I used it, it burned me good until I took Primadolphilus Reuteri with it and chasing it with liquid).

Another good report this morning! This seems to be working. Fingers crossed this continues.

I held the oil in my mouth for 5 mins. in order to break it down as much as possible (saliva is the pre digest of our system). It ends up a saliva & WOO cocktail.
At least some UC people have absorption issues, well I know I did... prior to taking the oil.
Plus, I guessed some of it may be absorbed in through my mouth tissues.

Great that you are doing well: so do you take the reuteri immediately with it?
Also, why the reuteri in particular and not another probiotic? Or olive oil as someone else suggested?

Is this the one you bought?

@25years. I swish it briefly in my mouth before swallowing to help repair my gums-it helps !

@ConquerUC I take the Reuteri prior to taking the first drops of the day. The reason I take it is that I did a great deal of research on the web about this and taking Reuteri with WOO seemed to be a common element-it does make a difference. I actually also take VSL#3 and Saccharomyces Boulardi just before bed, as well.

@eph Yes, it takes a few weeks to get to the states (from Greece). It is well worth it.

Another good report today. Still very hard for me to believe this is working this well.

It is amazing how much better my attitude is all day after NOT seeing B+M in the bowl.

Would you say it has worked better for you then the Sodium Butyrate?

The Sodium Butyrate is helpful for other reasons and will not stop taking it as well as resistant starch.

I have never used anything that has worked as quickly as the WOO. Time will tell, but it is clear that things in my body are improving after taking WOO. Im sure the FDA will ban ASAP :)

Another good report today. Absolutely no B+M. I am going to reduce the drops to 10 a day instead of 15 and monitor. Another side effect of WWO is no bloating, which was an issue prior to starting the WOO.

Have a great weekend !

I used the 85% one from Greece back in the beginning. I preferred to drop it in an empty gelcap. It finitely helped but after a couple weeks it did irritate my stomach. I was taking a Reuteri heavy probiotic. I do think oregano oil is a heavy hitter and invaluable in a protocol, my bugs just needed something I could take for longer because they are so slow growing. I still occasionally add 2 drops to a gelcap with cinnamon oil, if I feel any sickness coming on or have overdone it on carbs and notice bloating or gas and it knocks it out.

PK, Good to know you found some level of relief, as well.

Yes, I have to take the drops in a shot of water, followed by a very large water. If I don't. it can be painful, for sure. I am hoping my luck with WOO will continue as it seems to be good for many health issues.

Time will tell.

Things are still great. Yesterday I saw just a super small trace of Mucus. Today, back to 100% clear of B+M (yesterday was the only time I have seen Mucus-I am told it is the last to go and can be stubborn so I will continue the treatment). I am taking 10 drops a day.

Have a great weekend !

This is fascinating. Please keep us updated.

I wonder if eating fresh oregano would benefit? I have been using a lot of oregano in cooking for a number of years since my Genova CDSA test suggested it against a couple of the bacteria that showed high.

I have just started trying some olive leaf complex as had a mystery virus the past couple of weeks but am a bit worried it might over stimulate my immune system as had happened for me with black elderberry and I got inflammation.

Thanks, Lurker.

The high Carvacrol content in Oregano Oil is the key so not sure how effective regular Oregano will be. My guess is that regular Oregano will not be strong enough to make any difference. My GI had suggested the Olive Leaf Extract (Barleans Olive leaf complex) so that may be helpful beyond the mystery virus. If not, give Wild Oregano a go.

Here is a study feed oregano oil to chickens, kils their ecoli also kills their lacto bacteria, and increases MIC

or concentration of antibiotics necessary to kill the ecoli after feeding oregano oil.

I know oregano helps some, but this gives me some pause, about messing with gut bugs tooo much.

And of course chickens are not human. Perhaps we can wipe out the ecoli before too many good ones are killed off.

Something to think about.

Then again triple antibiotic therapy helps some with UC.

Thanks, OM but I don't totally understand this report and it would take significantly more data (on humans) for me to change things. Also, Im not a Chicken :)

All I know is that WOO has made short work of my Blood and Mucus. I utilize 3 different probiotics and have "harmony" in my gut. If the WOO was killing too much of the good bacteria, I would feel it. Should that happen, I will change things up. I cant imagine NOT using WOO at this point as it has proven to be the most effective treatment for my condition since my flare started in 2/2012.

You are also taking probiotics with the oregano, that may be important.
If it works it works, just something to think about.

I am probably going to try it again myself, did it perhaps 15 20 years ago,no effect that I remember.

The one thing I have noticed is the significant difference in Oregano Oil products. I had taken Oregano Oil (No Carvacrol content listed) several months ago and it had no effect on my UP, so I stopped taking it. IMO-The Wild Oregano Oil with high Carvacrol is the only way to utilize this for UP/UC as the regular stuff just wasnt strong enough (for me). Also, as we all know to well..."What works for one may not work for another with this disease". I am grateful for how well this is going and do not assume for one second that I have beat this illness. Fingers crossed that this will continue.

Another excellent report today. 100% clear of B+M. I ate some things I normally would avoid in the past last night and had no issues today.

Yesterday, I felt stomach pains in the evening that I assume are from WOO. I decided NOT to have any with dinner last night. No problems today with pain and no issues at all to report from the bathroom. I will take a break today from WOO and start back with it very slowly (2-3 drops a day) and see how that goes.

I dont know if the WOO will keep my symptoms at bay for awhile without taking it but I assume not. I've been taking it for only a couple of weeks but did start with high doses (15 drops a day).

We shall see but overall, these are good problems for me to have compared to the daily B+M I used to have.

No issues at all with the reduction of WOO drops to 5 a day. I feel really good overall and I am having less and less anxiety about this disease now that WOO is working so well.

It is hard to believe a $20 bottle of WOO can do more than any UC med I have ever tried. Fingers crossed it continues.

Have a great day.
