Personally, your initial goal shouldn't be to completely forsake meds, since you haven't yet tried the other options available...such as the apriso and Canasa...then use the steroid enemas for flaring and taper off to just using the Canasa again.
If you are able to use 5ASA meds again, then it's worth the trial before saying they're not good for you.
Sherry, who couldn't tolerate any other 5ASA orals is perfectly fine on the Apriso.
It's at least your last choice of oral 5ASA.
As far as adding alternative stuff...please do it slowly.
I'm doing great this week, last week my hemmie was a major PAIN, but I did add more Proctocedyl and a nightly enema for 4 nights...plus the topical Proctocedyl and all is good. I should learn to deal quickly with that stuff, because I know better. The cat's doing fine, I'm on a week off without being sick, so I'll be using this week to get back on track with some stuff. I'm fully welcoming Sept...good riddance to the summer from hell.
*Heather* I give suggestions, do with them what you will.
