Sadly, I've hit the point in treatment where 6mp, Remicade and Humera are my options. I can google till my face turns blue but nothing is more important to me than peoples experience.... If you don't mind sharing, I'd appreciate it.

In short, my father has UC and I was diagnosed in Jan 2012 at the age of 29. I've always had digestive problems (diarrhea, stomach aches, gas) but once I started bleeding 2 years ago, I knew it was different. I'm currently in my third flare which has moved faster than ever before. I've tried steriods, Canasa and take Asacol (4800mg daily). I'll be trying my first round of Rowasa on Monday which didn't seem to help my dad and I, so far, have been a lot like him in treatment options. He has been on Remicade for over 3 years now.

Thanks in advance for the support - I'm new to the forum.

Remicade brought me relief after decades of suffering. I'm a fan.
53 year old female attorney, diagnosed UC/pancolitis 1985.
Asacol for 20+ years with Prednisone & Rowasa for flares (But nothing since Remicade). Food sensitivity test by Naturopath showed wheat/gluten, other intolerances, helped some.
Remicade started April 2009 (Humira denied) and doing great~ learning what normal is~ wow

I was just diagnosed last month, 30 years old, they started me on the typical Asacol and Prednisone along with a few others. It was not working well at all. They started me on Remicade just over 2 weeks ago, just got my 2nd infusion 2 days ago. Definitely seems to be working for me.
Diagnosis:

Severe UC, 75% of colon, Aug 2013 (30 years old)

Meds:

Remicade 10mg/kg
Asacol HD 800 mg - 1 tab 3 x day - 2400 mg
Prednisone 10 mg - 2 tabs 2 x day - 40 mg
Azathioprine 50 mg - 1 tab 2 x day - 100 mg
Align Probiotic 4 mg - 1 tab 2 x day - 8 mg
Vicodin 5-300 mg - 1 tab (as needed) currently 3 x day - 900 mg
Pantoprazole 40 mg - 1 tab 1 x day - 40 mg
Centrum Multivitamin

6-MP for 5mths and seeing good improvement. Was on Lialda for 1-1/2 yrs and doing well but was still mild to moderate.

I'm now remembering what normal was. More energy, good feelings.

I at first feared the stronger meds ( mostly because of reading here), but...

I'm on Remicade currently and it's a god send. I also take Asacol HD just to be sure to keep it in check. No adverse side effects but I did have minor knee pain. It went away once I finished the infusion.

Asacol EC 800mg, Iron 45mg, & Remicade.

6MP + Remicade works for me. After an 18 month flare, they got me into remission, although I also needed some hydrocortisone enemas to tamp down the inflammation temporarily. No enemas since July, though, and feeling amazing. Full symptomatic remission.

I've been on 6mp for many months and remicade for 2 months. Neither has done anything for me. Don't meant to discourage you, just inform you that these meds don't work for a lot of people.

I'm a Remicade success story. I was on azathioprine (related to 6-MP) and it did nothing for me. Read my siggy for the details.

Thank you so much for all the replies. Of course I'm aware that everyone responds differently to any form of therapy. I can't wait to feel relief, no matter how I get it :)

6mp and Remicade didn't work for me. (tried cyclosporine too) By that time I was REALLY sick and fed up so I didn't bother with the Humira. I had surgery instead. These drugs work for some and not for others so if you are willing to try them, go for it. Hope something works out for you.

6 MP landed me in the hospital for 4 weeks. It caused me to have a toxic liver. My liver hardly functioned.. Dr drained 3 liters of fluid from around the liver since it couldn't do it on its own. It also messed my gall bladder and it had to be removed. I see my GI on Tuesday and hoping things have cleared enough I can start humira this week. :)

I love Remicade.
Diagnosed Ulcerative Colitis 09/07. Took more than a year to finally get things "under control"

Had bad reactions to 5-ASA's and 6MP.
(Continued/Worsened symptoms)

Took prednisone for over a year.
(Was the only thing that worked)

Now on Remicade and a low fiber diet.
REMISSION!

Yes, thanks so much -- It really helps to read other people's experiences. My doctor has more or less recommended Remicade but if I feel strongly about it he's okay with 6mp. The more I read about them, the more I'm inclined to go with Remicade. I don't know much about science, but the biologics make more sense to me than the immunomodulators.

My boss (who is really a great boss but is totally like a child wrt UC, which he was diagnosed with in February), upon hearing that I'll probably start Remicade soon, said, "But once you start it, that's it, you have to stay on it forever!!" Panic panic. I was like, no dude, when it stops working for people they stop taking it. He said, "No, you have to stay on it forever!" And I said, like what, like being on 5asa's forever? I don't get the panic. Are any of us told by any of our doctors that we'll ever stop taking meds?
dx 4/09 (1 week before breast cancer dx) with mild to moderate UC through mid-transverse colon
4.8 g Lialda; cortisone enemas as needed
Konsyl; RenewLife Ultimate Flora 80 bln; L-Glutamine; Florastor
Gluten free since 8/12 + in remission since 9/12
5/8/13 ate gluten & began flare
Prednisone 6/4 - 60 mg to 9/3 - 0 mg; entocort 3 mg 2x daily beginning 8/16/13
