I've been on remicade and flare free for two years and recently my stools have been smaller and less width than they were previously.  Then a week ago I get blood on my poop, it's like a straight line and that happend again a couple of days ago, typical for a hemi for me.  Then today there's a little glob of blood and earlier I farted mucous.  I'm seeing GI tomorrow.

I'm 12w4d pregnant with twins. Maybe it was all the hormones from early pg?  My last remicade was about 4 weeks ago and I've been going every 8 weeks.

I saw the twins yesterday on the u/s they were bouncing all around and doing great.  I just hope if it is a flare I can get it under control........Always something!

Has this happened to anyone else?

Ughh, Beth so sorry. Can you add in any rectal meds (obviously not asa rectals..maybe cortifoam or cortenema) to nip this in the bud? Also thinking they will have the least impact on the pregnancy. (Of course check w/ the Dr.) Congrats on your pregnancy...an twins, how wonderful!!

Good thing you're going right away to check with the gastro. Hopefully, the mucus/blood sighting is just a minor blip that you can get past with a careful diet. I know that pregnancy hormones messed up my best friend's 1st trimester carrying twins--- even though she normally had an iron gut. Her digestive tract calmed down during month 4, and then she was fine 'til month 8 when the big babies pressed on her bladder, causing frequent trips to the john. Let us know what your gastro advises. / Old Hat (33 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

Beth, I totally think it's the hormones from pregnancy causing things to get worked up. I hope if you get through this part, things will stabilize. I also hope your symptoms don't get much worse - I was hoping you would remain flare free throughout and after your pregnancy.

Thanks so much for your responses, it's so scary when I have two other people depending on me. I usually get D when I get my period so def hormones affecting me.

I saw the GI this morning and he checked my bum, no hemi and he says it looks good but had blood test to check for inflammation markers. He is going to wait to see what that says before making any decisions, but he thinks things will be ok.

He does not want to put me on steriods at this point because the benefits do not outweigh the risk to the twins in the first trimester. I'm going 1-2 times a day and no D and blood a few times in the past week and a half. He says that I'm at the lowest dose of remicade of 5mg per kg of body weight and that can go up to 10mg and also I can go every 6 weeks.

I'm hoping I'm like your friend Old Hat and this subsides soon! I'm proud of myself for going so early, normally I'm in denial for far too long.
