I went into remission for over a year w/o any drugs. I was experimenting on myself with various combinations of herbs and diet modification. Looking at the stats and reading a lot of posts here, I decided I would just go for it and see what happened. So lots of experimentation, lots of eliminations, lots of frustration, lots of reading, lots of taking notes, and lots of people telling me it couldn't be done. I had no symptoms for about
15 months. Then very very gradually, I started feeling "not quite right" and then saw some blood, then some mucous, symptoms got a little worse for a few months, but really not bad and my lifestyle didn't change. Then very gradually, the symptoms went away again and I had another 8 months without symptoms. Just my personal experience.
I know everyone is different. With this disease, it seems we are radically different, but I do believe some people can achieve remission w/o the drugs. But I also think it takes a huge leap of faith to go against everything your doctor recommends and trust that you'll figure it out.
I suspect that if my symptoms were really bad, I would be more likely to seek the meds. But as it is, my symptoms are very mild and the meds seem a lot scarier.
Good luck you everyone, whatever path you choose.
