If you have been ask to have an MRCP with contrast(dye) to help diagnose PSC, do you see any harm in this or would you stick with a MRCP without contrast?

You need the contrast...I've had it twice with no problems.

It's given during the last part of the MRCP...not through the whole thing.

Where I had mine done, the second one I drank grapefruit juice a determined amount of time before the test began..it was to help enhance the bile or something like that.

An IV is inserted and then the dye is injected into that when it's needed.

I'd rather have the test done properly,

I also got a cd copy of both tests...cost me $20.

Thank you Quincy. I was hoping you would reply. I got lucky you are still up. Assuming you are on the same time as me. I feel better having my son do this now. He's had one without contrast but fell asleep through it and therefor had to much movement. Thank you again.

I don't understand something....with the MRCP, one has to do specific breathing, holding breath, etc...how the heck did he fall asleep with the noise?? it's loud as hell with the headphones on and having to do the required breathing, etc...

It's 12:12 AM...I just got home and am pigging out on plain hummus, pretzel chips and green grapes...starving. I probably won't sleep now..lol. So, what better to do as well except to check on here..lol.

I'm off now to wash up and watch Grimm with my husband, but I had to answer this one.

I have never had a MRI so I really don't know about the noise. I understand it's very noisy. I guess the white noise and the length lulled him to sleep. He will know better this time around.

We too had just got home around midnight. His liver specialist called personally, which is great, but I was out at a very noisy restaurant on a Friday night. What are the odds!! So I was stuffed and went right to sleep after my post. Have a great weekend. Thanks again.

How cool is that for the specialist to call on a Friday night!

When's your son's MRCP?

I don't know yet, haven't heard from the hospital. Specialist just called to let us know he should have another one. He is away at university. It may be a little tricky organizing it. Hopefully know more in the next week. I'm not sure if it should take priority over exams and midterms at this point. The added stress won't do him any good. And I don't think the outcome will be any different then now. They are quite sure he has asymptomatic PSC.
