hell yes! there is hope for us, this disease is very weird.
Ive had this since 1991 , here is some history of my remissions:
1991: 3 month flare up and diagnosis, Then 10 year med free crappy diet remission. yes, 10 years of not doing anything special. in those years i got married, started my career had 2 kids , bought a house etc....
2001: flare up, for a few month and then 5 year med free crappy diet remission
2006: flare up, then remission for 2 year remission, no diet changes some meds (asacol, but sporadic)
2008:my luck ran out. flare up that has lasted till TODAY, still flaring, 5 years later! in this time i have changed my diet, tried EVERYTHING metnioned on the boards, diets, supp, etc.
See what i mean, UC makes no sense. I did nothing at all and was in LOOOOOONg remissions, now when i do everything that i am supposed to do, i cant achieve remission. thats why i get so sceptical when people pop in and say i ate spinach (or whatever) and Im cured. Because I know. I know you can do nothing and get to remission, or you can do everything and still flare. Crazy, right?
UC since 1991, pancolitis
current: mild flare
meds: 150 mg Imuran, lialda 4 pills, I pill uceris, rowasa 2x week, multivitamin
tried many many supps/diets/alternative stuff, none worked
Diet: lactose free, minimal sugar, vinegar, processed foods, i eat raw organic baby spinach almost daily
