I took Asacol for 10 years. I started with 4800 mg to put me in remission, then went to maintenance dose of 2400, then 1600. This kept me mostly in remission for those 10 years, with some mild symptoms.
I had another flare two years ago and switched to 4800 mg of Asacol HD, then down to 3200 mg after I was back in remission.
I'm now on 1500 mg of Apriso a day and doing great!
I said all of this to say that I have not noticed the Mesalamine losing effectiveness over long-term use. My dr just adjusts the dosage to how I'm responding to it.
