Your question is so timely, as I was about
to ask the same or similar question. My scope just showed "segmental discontinuous granularity was noted in the sigmoid colon. These findings are compatible with uc. The terminal iliem was intubated and examined, no inflammation or abnormalities noted." I haven't yet got the pathology reports. I have been on Remicade since April.
I too thought UC was continuous. Also, I had Doctors sho suspected Barrets in the past and found gastritis of the esophogus recently. I believe this was due to the back up constipation causing bile to go up into the esophagus.
Previous scopes (and biopsies) by different docs showed
June 2011 left sided uc
February 2012 Pancolitis (after having taken Apriso, then minmal treatment due to kidney cancer surgery).
February 2013 Left sided UC
I was tempted to question my doc too about Chrohns, but I guess the real answer lies in the biopsies. Is this correct? Does healing occur in a segmented pattern? So confusing.
