I quit smoking in March (chantix) and got my UC in June. (Still flaring)
In august/September I did have about half a cigarette 2-3 times which caused immediate urgency. I also had a cigarette in early November and had no urgency from it.
The urgency I experienced reminded me of a coffee poop. Or now if I have caffeine in any form. I believe its the stimulant of smoking that creates the urgency. In November I also had a drink. So maybe the depressant of that stopped the stimulant urge to poo.
As much as I would never suggest to NOT quit smoking... it may be easiest to wait until you get this flare cleared up. Though im sure puffing a cig would have that same effect the gum gives you.
The only tool to quit smoking that doesn't give you the nicotine that is going to stimulate your bowels is probably Chantix.
