So my mom gave me and my fiancee her juicer and I am definitely excited to start trying this thing out! Praise God I am in remission and getting my weight back after losing 30 lbs. Completely formed stools about 3 times a day, and rarely blood on the paper. I am still taking meds, slowly tapering off the Pred (5 mgs/ a week) and continuing to take my Lialda.

But now I really desire, like some people on here and the owner of my health food store, to achieve remission thru good health practices and one day get off the meds entirely. My friend, who is the owner of the health food store in town, was dx'd with UC 15 years ago and it got so bad they wanted to have his colon removed. He did not agree and went to a different GI who focused on natural healing and put him on a very strict diet and herbal supplements (one of the main ones is the Colon F in my sig) and in 6 months he had no more symptoms. He has enjoyed being symptom free for 15 years (he said he splurged once on his old eating habits and had another mini flare) but he eats mostly a vegan diet and drinks plenty of water and gets adequate sunshine and such.

I have been doing some research on Beet Juice and the benefits for it look amazing for UC sufferers! Does anyone have any experience with this, it looks very promising and I encourage you guys to check it out. I am gonna start my first juice today and probably start doing it 3 times a week.

I plan to try and get off the Lialda in about a month because my insurance will not cover the medicine and there is no way that I can afford it.. So I will be doing everything I can to get this under control completely thru what my friend did and other natural herbal supplements while slowly tapering off the medicine, hopefully, Lord willing, this will work =)

Unfortunately, UC is not a disease where changing to a healthy lifestyle is guaranteed to give the results you are looking for. It might and it might not. There have been many here who already lived a healthy lifestyle and then got UC and there have also been many here who tried juicing and got much worse. Not really trying to discourage you because this may possibly work for you. It certainly doesn't hurt to try. Just don't want anyone to have the frame of mind that this is a cure all for everyone.

Kale? I bet that takes quiet a bit of kale to get any kind of juice, I like to bake kale chips with olive oil and salt, its super good and addictive! I had a small glass this morning and im gonna probably start doing it 3 times a week of 2 carrots 1 apple and 1 beet.

I used to be big in to juicing. Haven't done it in awhile though, and not since any of my inflammation symptoms. You'd be surprised how much pure rich juice comes out of kale. I did the whole thing, stalks and all. Beet juice tastes great and has super benefits. Be prepared though, even when I was "normal" and my hubby too, each time we had juice with beets we both had a GIANT super red turd the very next morning. Don't be alarmed! It seemed to clear us both right out. Now, I don't know how this will react to sensitive inflamed guts. Please, let us all know how it goes. I may dust off my juicer and get back at it! Good luck!

Diagnosis:First Colonoscopy (dec2013)showed inflammation/ulcers but biopsy had no markers, so no IBD diagnosed yet. IBS-D for 10+ years.

I have doubts that specifically "beet" juicing will help. A combination of a bunch of veggies/fruits will give maximum effect. Also aren't beets a little bit of a laxative type?

i don't think juicing will keep you in remission at all but it's an easy way to get nutrients in. some people get the runs from it- like me- so i avoid it but i used to be really into it when i was a raw vegan. i wasn't a fan of green juices because they taste so bad but i could chug fresh orange juice like there's no tomorrow. apple juice is amazing, too. i haven't heard of beets being good for UC but at the health food store i go to, i used to get the "cleanser." it was a mixture of beets, carrots, ginger, and apple.

Best of luck, I hope you can find an answer and move forward. Diet does the trick for many colitis sufferers. Juicing is a very healthy practice, there is no doubt about that.

Cheers to good health and happiness.

Just a warning,
Juicing put me in massive constipation and never before kind of flare. I am still at loss what triggered that. My GI could not answer me either. Just go slowly.

In theory, it looks it should help, but as I said, I have no clue why it went south so fast in my case. I wasn't juicing anything unusual, it was a combination of carrot, pineapple, apple, beetroots, celery and cucumber.
