"I am fairly certain I know what has caused these most recent flares" - what?
Going the natural way usually never brings on a complete remission, but it can on occasion. If so, you would be one of the FEW lucky ones. It is my opinion that natural things have a better chance of keeping you in remission than actually getting you to a remission. If I were you I would do these natural things at the same time as the pred and hope that as you taper back the pred you will remain in remission. If this doesn't happen then it is obvious these things weren't ever going to bring you into remission in the first place. UC is an autoimmune disease, which means your diet didn't give you UC in the first place so it is unlikely that diet will cure you either. No UC med is a cure and in most cases you will find that even though diet and other natural alternatives can sometimes make you better, they are not a cure either. The trouble with all the anti med, natural alternative people is that they believe these things will cure everything and they don't. UC is a disease where you can't let it get out of control and sometimes by going strictly by an alternative, natural treatment plan (if it doesn't work) will allow it to get out of control, forcing you to eventually use even worse meds in the future.
