I was searching for Berberine use experience, didn't find anything specifically, but found that there are few users who take/taken Berberine extract.

I will be glad if they can share their experience, in terms of,
- Why you incorporated it in your regimen?
- What was the result like, did it help symptom you were targeting? Any other positive side effect
- Negative side effects, primarily, if you are very sensitive to NSAIDs, like taking one puts you in flare, did you go in flare with this one.

Thanks in advance.

i took berberine because my naturopath did some "muscle testing" on me and said my body "needed" it. i didn't notice a difference in anything. this was after my 2nd round of antibiotics for c diff but before my 3rd round. i was just trying anything to avoid the antibiotics and get my UC under control... and this didn't work haha my only side effect was hives and itchy skin. i've connected it back to this specific supplement because it happens every time i try to add it back in. there are other ingredients in it that could also be causing the hives since i've never tried berberine on its own.

I take berberine because it is active against yeast and it is a natural efflux pump inhibitor and strengthens the effects of diflucan and nystatin. I do notice that it has been helpful. I believe my UC intensified in my teens after a car accident when I was on NSAIDs and pain killers. I havent taken any nsaids since. I did try devils claw, it is a natural NSAID and it was not good on my stomach.

Thank you ladies.

PK,
Is Berberine giving you any troubles? It also acts on COX-2.

Nope, except with the norovirus. Throwing up berberine is perhaps the most disgusting thing ever.

I am prediabetic and that is the real reason why I monitor my diet so closely. Luckily the same processed foods I need to avoid to manage my blood sugar are the same foods I need to avoid that trigger UC symptoms.

I don't need meds for my prediabetes sugar but several years ago I found that berberine really helps to lower my fasting blood sugar. Then several years ago I had a detached retina that started a cascade of multiple surgeries in my eye.

One side effect of the surgeries was macular edema. I noticed that berberine didn't help and after some research found that berberine can aggravate the condition. My macular edema is gone but no more berberine for me.
