Neither was exactly right for me. I am gluten-free but it took removing many more foods than gluten including dairy (SCD allows some), fruit, fruit juices (SCD allows them), no sugar replacements (SCD allows them), removed all grains including rice and others, removed fiberous veggies, removed seafood, no alcohol (SCD allows), no almond meal (SCD allows). I'm sure there are more but this is off the top-of-my-morning brain.
If you begin by removing gluten and dairy that should be a very good start. If you see absolutely no improvement then diet modification may not work for you because these 2 are the big offenders.
Keep a food journal and notice any trends over a week or more. Some foods do not react right away. Gluten for example was very hard to pinpoint for me, I only saw improvement when I removed it and didn't connect bad symptoms to it when it was in my daily food.
I did SCD very faithfully twice in the last 10 years and could not get to remission with it. It is very hard to do but being even more restriced than SCD is what it took for me to get healed.
Good luck. Diet mod. is not easy but if that's your only choice well you have no choice except to try it.
