Hi, i work night shifts, usually one or two a week combined with day shifts (I'm a children's nurse). I'm flaring with my proctitis at the moment And definitely found it got worse after doing two night shifts at the end of last week. Anyone else got any experience of this?

UC is associated with shift work, throws off the circadian cycle, which messes with your melatonin and other

immune modulating chemicals.

Sorry I should have added to my sig that I'm currently using pred suppositories to deal with the flare, was using pentasa too but it was giving me black bits in my poo so Ibd nurse recommended discontinuing this, not sure why?

I honestly don't think the black bits are bad, imo.

I work nights too. But only nights, I never work days. So in my case I have a regular schedule. My colon is doing fine at the moment.

Maybe you could ask for a more regular schedule for a few weeks?

Agree with Andrina and Old Mike. Working those hours will throw people off who don't have UC. The added stress to your body of going back and forth on schedules is not a healthy one.

Past Meds:
Lialda - Stopped due to bad reaction (Severe Joint/Muscle Pain), Delzicol - Took while in the hospital, Flagyl - Took while in the hospital, Cipro - Took while in the hospital, Pantoprazole – No longer needed
