I believe that if you get tats that it should mean something personal to you...I mean after all, this is mostly permanent. I got my 3rd tat today with my 18 year old daughter. But all my tats are of butterflies. One of them has the purple ribbon (for hidden diseases). To me butterflies is my transformation....turn something ugly into something beautiful (meaning...before UC I was the typical self centered American. After UC I am more compassionate, sympathetic, caring and aware of the suffering of others).

So the one I got today was the wings of a Monarch with a purple ribbon with the word HOPE in the ribbon. My daughter got a beautiful purple butterfly with ribbons coming off the wings and MOM 1992(the year I was diagnosed) in the wings in honor of everything I've had to deal with. Btw this was her idea, not mine.

Anyway, I'm excited to have my new addition so I had to share :)

Nice.. I love seeing people with tatts as well. I only have one (which was pain enough), though often daydream about more heh. Glad you liked what you got.

Awesome. I was just talking to my tattoo guy last night about getting some new work done. Since I have come down sick I have gotten 2 large pieces done that reflect my feelings about my disease and life. I see no reason not to get more especially since I am now divorced and there is no one to complain about me getting more.

Nice, I just recently got my 3rd tattoo as well (last week). My 1st was a Phoenix, 2nd was the word "Persevere" and the 3rd has a skull holding a hourglass. All 3 have important meanings to me, the Phoenix is about rebirth/rising above everything, Persevere of course just from it's definition and the skull/hour glass representing a significant life event and that life is constantly moving, don't take anything for granted.

I am going to get "Family Forever" as an ambigram, a medieval style Dragon for protection and strength, and an owl for wisdom. Then trying to figure out how to incorporate 3 ribbons, one for my grandma (cancer), one for my mom (cancer) and my grandpa (alzheimers)/me (UC) they share the same color ribbon.
Diagnosis:
Severe UC, 75% of colon, Aug 2013 (30 years old), 2.5 weeks in the hospital, 6.5 weeks of work missed, lost 50 lbs in 5 weeks

Current Meds:
Remicade 10mg/kg - 4 Week interval, Asacol HD 2400 mg x day, Prednisone 40 mg x day, Azathioprine 100 mg x day, Ultimate Flora Critical Care 50 Billion 10 Probiotic Strains

Past Meds:
Lialda - Stopped due to bad reaction (Severe Joint/Muscle Pain), Delzicol - Took while in the hospital, Flagyl - Took while in the hospital, Cipro - Took while in the hospital, Pantoprazole – No longer needed

Thanks all :) Mine and my daughters tats are starting to shed already and boy I think I know how a snake feels when it sheds it's skin! Itchy, itchy!

Peety, I love the white tattoos! In fact, if I ever decide to do another one I think that is what I will go for. I think they are so beautiful and subdued.

Mike and Scum, those sound great!

Jano, what scares you about them? The pain or the permanence of them? I was scared too and call it a midlife crisis or whatnot, but I didn't get my first one until I was 40 LOL
