So yesterday morning I mixed two tablespoons of Organic India Psyllium husk into my morning smoothie. The smoothie only consisted of 2 bananas (fully spotted), 1 cup almond milk, 1 scoop Garden of Life Raw Protein powder, 1 teaspoon L-Glutamine. So I drank that gooey smoothie down. For dinner I just made some sweet/regular potato mash and ate it with chicken broth. In the evening right before bed I added some Psyllium seed powder (http://tinyurl.com/l8e9p87) with water and a packet of VSL#3 (non-Rx version) and I drank that.

Now before Quincy asks if I'm using my enema's nightly.. Yes I am. tongue

This morning I had one bowel movement but it was a relatively smooth and solid BM w/ no visible blood! Boy was I ecstatic! So then I waited and had the same smoothie again just thinking that I'm going to have to go again a couple mins after I have my smoothie. Nope I didn't have to go again!

Is this the effects of the psyllium?? Also am I taking it correctly?

wow, you started with 2 tablespoons at one time? brave girl!

My suggestion would be to split the dosage in the morning and one in the evening with a meal...not before bedtime.

Keep us posted on how you're doing...

Good suggestion quincy.. Maybe that way I won't have to "drink" my smoothie in the morning with a spoon. I never realized how thick & gooey it gets if I don't drink it right away.

soystud - i'll consider putting a cup of that stuff in my smoothie the next time I have to present at a conference.. I can't be running out on my own presentation.

You may not be running.....but I'd guarantee you might be writhing in pain with a belly the size of a basketball, and screaming "why do I do these things???? whyyyyyyyyyyyyy?????"

You could also mix the psyllium in a favourite juice watered down possibly?

That's why I take capsules....drinking that stuff is ugh!

I hate that feeling.. Attempting to hold it in until a meeting is over or conference is over. Horrible!!

Capsules are next once I finish this batch! I should've asked if I should buy the powder or the capsule before buying the powder two days ago.. sigh..

You could put them in capsules, by the way....you'd have to figure out how many would equal one tablespoon divided into whatever size capsules (that easier for you to swallow, etc.

Careful to NOT breathe in the psyllium.

Interesting to put them in cookies!

I was wondering, when you drink the stuff mixed in water it says it is vital to drink it fast and to drink more water to make sure there is enough water in the bowel given it will be absorbing it.

Am wondering when taking capsules or eating in dry food how it doesn't need a lot more water?

You still take a full glass or more when taking the capsules.
Plus, food....I never eat just dry food, it's an actual meal AFTER I eat. Oh, and I drink coffee after meals too...so that's also liquid.

Thanks Quincy. I have started up with some psyillium (Lepicol) and seems good. They packed me up with it when I left hospital in 1988 :-) but I didn't stick with it for more than 6 months because like so much of the prescribed stuff from the UK National Health Service, it is full of rubbish as fillers.

I hadn't realised even before about the anti-spasmodic they put in it, just reading up again on it now

Fybogel:

Ispaghula husk [that is just the more common name for psyllium in the UK) is capable of absorbing up to forty times its own weight of water in vitro and part of its activity can be attributed to its action as a simple bulking agent. In addition, colonic bacteria are believed to use the hydrated material as a metabolic substrate. This results in an increase in the bacterial cell mass with a consequential softening of the faeces.

Mebeverine hydrochloride is a musculotropic antispasmodic agent which exerts a direct action on the smooth muscle of the gastrointestinal tract, relieving the spasm without affecting gut motility.

Ingredients have some things you would not want to take every day, such as Talc! Aspartame..

6.1 List of excipients

Basic Butylated Methacrylate Copolymer

Talc sterilised Ph Eur

Polyethylene Glycol 6000

Polysorbate 80

Silica colloidal anhydrous

Orange flavour

Saccharin sodium

Beta-Carotene 10% CWS/S
