Maybe ask others on here on a separate post and find out if anyone else noticed any positive response from supplement forms. A few must have tried I'm sure. Path seems to have some positive.
I thought OM and Banangirl tried it as well.
As far as food sources maybe just the Resistant Starch threads on here would be a good resource. For me I take Bob's Redmill potato starch cause that all I can find around here and I'm not a huge fan of green bananas, though oddly I'm actually starting to like them. I aim for on a day, but usually ends up being one green/slightly yellow banana every other day.
I had better luck with the precursors than just the single components, though that's just my n=1 experience. I find my body does not know what to do with single components (I tried glutathione, butyrate, 5HTP, etc) and had better luck by getting the complete foods (broths, raw milk, potatoes, complete proteins, etc). Richard from freetheanimal basically compiled the data on RS from the users on his site and said that 90%+ do very well with RS supplementation, but some will run into issues because they do not have the proper flora to assimilate it. Dr.Grace basically followed up and said to supplement with probiotics, ferments, etc and people found that their issues with potato starch resolved.
Maybe it's my genetic make up or whatever, but that is what works for me. However, what works for me may not work for someone else until they try it. I gave butyrate a good shot, but moved on and found RS like beans, rice to be better for helping my gut lining heal, though I do occasionally supplement with the potato starch, inulin, green banana flour etc.
Again, it's really a matter of experimentation to see if it will work, as all of us are different. There's a lot of trial and error in this and it's not easy to figure out.
