I've started with 1200mg of sodium butyrate per day in an attempt to provide relief to my IBS symptoms and I suspect I maybe passing more mucus. Is this expected with sodium butyrate?

i don't know the answer to your question, but i think my case is similar, i've been taking sodium butyrate for many months already and i have an impression i pass more mucus, so maybe there's a correlation

Thanks for the reply Ewa. Have you felt the sodium butyrate has helped?

I thought sodium butyrate was meant to heal the mucus membranes, which in turn would potentially cause them to produce more mucus. For me i was already producing too much mucus so i dont want to take a supplement that increases that.

First post, hope it is in the right place. Saw this thread about Sodium Butyrate which I am in the processing of implementing and hope to join in and get more info. I have IBS C,possibly an autoimmune mixed in, blood does not show it yet, but have some symptoms. Anyway,my gut is a mess and wanted to add in the Sodium Butyrate to help heal, but sas soon as I take even 100mg I get even more constipated, extremely hard stools, almost to the point of blockage. I have done this 3 times, takes about a week to clear up until stool softes enough to go normally. I have tried, glycerin supp, mag citrate caps, Miralax, none helps to keep moisture in my intestines for softer stools.
why is this happening, isn't is supposed to do the opposite of what I am getting? Anyone with an idea let me know, really trying to heal my gut!

Mike
