I take mag oxide as well. I had a liver transplant in Oct. of 2013, and because I am on tacrolimus, I have to supplement with some mag. I have been in a UC flare since Feb of this year (basically my first one since diagnosis in 1991), and am trying to tame it with just Asacol and a paleo/SCD diet (not going on pred unless I am on my deathbed and that's the only thing that will save me).
I asked about
taking a different type of mag supplement to see if the mag oxide was making things worse, but the transplant pharmacy kind of hemmed and hawed about
it and didn't really want me to switch. They know how much elemental magnesium I am taking, and that's what they give everyone. They like to stay with what works, which I understand, but I need to look at all the angles. If it were "just" my UC, and I wasn't on an immunosuppressant, I would experiment a little with different types of mag, but unfortunately, I can't risk getting things out of balance.
I may bug them about
this again. Does anyone take the mag supplement from GI Prohealth? I emailed them to find out how much elemental magnesium was in their supplement, but never heard back. If I could give the transplant pharmacist solid numbers, maybe I could convince them to let me switch for while and see if it helps my UC. Any advice out there?
