You are a very understanding professor. I wish I would have found someone similar to you.
When I was diagnosed, I let my PhD boss know (calling him adviser will be a serious insult of real advisers). I used to be in the lab about 70-75 hours a week, excluding odd hours I would stop by for starting or stopping something. Not that I was doing anyone any favor, but would have certainly appreciated kind of understanding you showed.
I was at the GI during one of our weekly meetings. Someone said, they should wait for me, my boss said, no, he is at the doctors as he leaks from the rear end !!! (exactly these words). Later on, a lot of odd comments those are beyond mentioning here.
No wonder, the same person found it funny when I told him, I have to take a break from my thesis writing as my son is diagnosed with Autism..
I still have to deal with this guy sometimes, but it irks me so much to even see his email in my inbox.
Talk about understanding people around you.
