If you are taking a safe med (such as Salofalk) then it just seems really stupid to me to taper it at all until you are in complete and total remission and then at that point it becomes something to CONSIDER. I don't personally believe at all that you go into remission with UC and then have a "new norm". To me it is a black and white issue - you are either still dealing with UC (to some extent) or you're not. Going twice per day with soft poo means you are still dealing with UC. What do they expect to happen if you taper? Are you going to magically get better by taking less meds? I highly doubt it. You will get worse. To tell the truth, I would not be happy with care outside the US. Doctors are incompetent enough (even in the US) but I would really hate to have to deal with IBD nurses and consultants. I would be very frustrated.
it from business point of view though. Taper = more trips back to doctor. From our point of view, if it is helping, keep up what you are doing and fewer trips back to doctor. Only way to make sense of some of the things people post about
