You probably get asked questions about these two procedures all the time, but here comes another one anyway...
After my GP did a proctoscopy I'm going to see a consultant next week about "probable proctitis" (no mention of ulcerative) and he will decide what tests I need to find out what the diagnosis is. I know it will most likely either be a sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy, but the thing is I had my drink spiked when I was young and now I am really phobic of sedatives, so I am considering going without.
My question is, I had an endoscopy (stomach) a couple years ago without a sedative, have any of you had this and could you tell me if a colonoscopy without sedative would be any worse? Because I figure if I can handle the front I can probably handle the back! I was totally fine with a proctoscope and DRE, and I'm pretty used to putting haemorrhoid cream up in my junk so I'm not hugely precious about it. I know its all personal experience, but I'm just looking for any kind of comparison. However!! I would like to kindly ask - no horror stories though please, because they are no doubt few and far between and I'm suuuuper not interested in getting scared at this point! Haha. So thanks in advance for not freaking me out!
The alternative is that I be a big brave girl and face my fear of sedatives. Which of course I am hesitant to do... And plus there's the bonus of getting to leave the hospital right away if I go without.
Cheers my dears!
