Earlier this year, around the end of winter, beginning of spring I stopped smoking, and felt amazing. Fast forward to around mid July and my gut was in full war mode. cramps, horrible gasious outbursts of an unholy nature, and then the bloody BM's started. No D, everything was "solid" kind of raggedy, but just a smear or two on the first and last inch. And mucous, oh the mucous...so disgusting. So, I went to the doctor, and after a gamut of tests I was diagnosed with ulcerative proctitis. Super.
GI doc put me on a 30 day regiment of Canasa sups. Yay, pills in my bum. Oh well, it could be a lot worse I thought.
At first I didn't think they were doing anything, but around week 3 my symptoms started to go away and a few days later they were gone. I finished the script and life was good for about 3 months.
Well, I'm pretty sure its back, but its not nearly as bad as it was before. The crampy full feeling is gone, but my guts just feel...weird? Its a strange twingy-stabby all over my gut. It isnt debilitating, but it doesnt feel normal. I did quite a bit of research that led me to VSL#3 (Most of which was here). I've began taking 8 pills a day and feel better, but there is still a metric buttload (pun intended) of mucous. My BM's are also pretty random, a solid one here, a weird shag carpet one there, its just so weird. Also, about every 5 or 6 BM's there is a tiny bit of blood, but nothing like it was before. Could the VSL#3 be causing the stabby feeling and chaotic BM's?
How long does it usually take VSL#3 for it to start colonizing your gut? I've read anywhere from a few days to several weeks. Also, can it knock out a mild flare?
Any other "bio-hacks" that can help beat down a flare?
Any tips on diet?
I feel like I just got over this, and then got the wind knocked out of me again, so any help would be outstanding.
Just seeing if there is anything out there that can help before I wave the white flag and go back to the doctor.
Thanks again in advance.
